Research

These are my research interests:
  • Information Extraction and Information Retrieval from Web: automatic transformation of HTML pages into semi-structured XML documents, separation and extraction of metadata from Web pages.
  • Web Content Mining: automated ontology mining from Web pages, merging/mapping ontologies, metadata and instance mining from domain specific Web pages.
  • Machine Learning and Data Mining: efficient training of artificial neural networks and statistical learning methods for handling large data sets.

My Ph.D. advisor is Dr. Hasan Davulcu. We are working on building systems that can automatically learn ontologies from Web pages and organize the information for effective retrieval. I am part of Cognitive Information Processing (CIPS) Lab in the Department of Computer Science Department at Arizona State University.

My Masters' thesis titled "Efficient Neural Network Training Using Subsets of Very Large Datasets" dealt with application of neural networks to the field of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD). My advisor was Dr. Rich Maclin. A copy of my thesis can be found on his page. My thesis presentation slides can be found here (a pdf version is here).
